On 9th June 1697 Paisley’s most infamous witch trial reached a conclusion with the execution of the remaining six witches at the Gallowgreen. Their remains were buried at the crossroads of Maxwelllton and Canal Street and a horseshoe was placed over them to protect the people of Paisley. This spot can still be seen at the crossroads today.
